The city of Carlsbad is a community all its own,
ranked as one of the largest suburban cities in the county. And although
it has a major theme park (Lego Land) and is growing every day, Carlsbad
has plenty of room for growth & existing state lands, maintaining an
enjoyable community and breathtaking landscape.
Carlsbad borders the Pacific on the west and valleys &
mountains on the east. This orientation allows for many ocean-view homes
and lower cost real estate within the hills and canyons. Newer
developments are building inland, increasing both community and
commerce. This city also boasts the most frequented single runway
airport in the nation, making travel more convenient than traveling 35
miles south to Lindbergh Field in Downtown San Diego. The Coaster, San
Diego’s commuter train, is a convenient alternative for commuters
traveling into San Diego.
This preserved beach
community is booming with activity. Promenades walk along parks and
beaches; nightclubs attract music lovers. Shops and sidewalk cafes
embody Carlsbad’s small town charm that residents thrive to maintain.
Population is a combination of retirees, families, and some singles. The
rise in growth of inhabitants has attracted more middle class and
retirees, who can afford this perfect-weather paradise.
Each spring, the foothills of Carlsbad are transformed
into a rainbow of vibrant colors. The Flower Fields host thousands of
visitors from all over the world including flocks of local students.
During the peak ranunculus blooming season of March and April,
buttercups and gladioli reign; poinsettias blossom in the winter. This
fantastic display is unique to North America.
The landscape of Carlsbad is fortuned with three
spectacular lagoons, considered sensitive ecosystems, that are sacred
lands for bird watching and nature walks. Besides the many miles of
beaches, hills and mesas, the city takes pride in its golf reputation.
With ten courses, and plans to build another, golfers flock not only for
the game and yearly national tournament, but also to the many
manufacturers of equipment and clothing, including professional brands
TaylorMade and Callaway Golf. Worth mentioning is the renowned Aviara
Golf Course, Four Seasons Resort, and La Costa
Resort & Spa, which
feature two full courses and plenty of wealth. The weather and landscape
in Carlsbad make for a golfer’s dream.
Other activities within the community include
the theme park Legoland, a public
swimming pool, tennis courts, parks, playgrounds, sports fields, bocce
ball, annual triathlon, and a motor speedway that is closing for
renovations in 2004. There is a fish hatchery with sea bass, a
children’s museum, and an award-winning library, known for its genealogy
collection. There is no shortage of fun and exciting activities for
residents of all ages.
